Colwyn Bay secured a key three points in the Cymru Premier with a 3-2 victory over Connah's Quay Nomads on Saturday. The win lifts Michael Wilde's side to eighth in the table on 13 points, a significant boost after a run of inconsistent results.

Wilde's tactical switch pays off

Manager Michael Wilde made a decisive change at half-time, introducing D. Roberts for A. Moore. The move shifted the momentum after Connah's Quay had taken an early lead through a C. West penalty in the ninth minute. Colwyn Bay responded in the 53rd minute when J. Davies found the net, and S. Forde put them ahead just thirteen minutes later. The team's recent form has been a mix of wins and losses, but this result against a top-half rival marks a positive step.

A frantic finish

Connah's Quay, managed by John Disney, fought back to level the score late in the second half, setting up a tense finale. The match was a physical affair, with Colwyn Bay's C. Bratley, S. Forde, J. Davies and D. Roberts all receiving yellow cards. The visitors also saw A. Hughes and A. Sharif booked by referee Owen Thomas. In the 90th minute, Wilde's final substitution proved decisive as M. Hill, who had just replaced the cautioned Davies, scored the winning goal. This ended a run of three consecutive draws between the two sides, which included a 1-1 stalemate last April.

Building on a patchy run

The victory provides a platform as Colwyn Bay looks ahead to its next match. Before this win, their season had featured a heavy 5-1 loss to leaders The New Saints but also a solid 2-0 win against Llandudno. They now sit nine points behind the summit, with 10 goals scored and 12 conceded from their eight games. The team will aim to build consistency when they host Cambrian & Clydach on 30 October. Cambrian & Clydach currently occupy tenth place, making it another important fixture in the push up the table. Fans can check the full schedule on our fixtures list.

Michael Wilde praised his squad's resilience after the match. "The character shown today was exactly what we needed," the Colwyn Bay manager said. "We stayed in the game and found a way to win it." The result moves the club three points closer to the top five and provides a timely confidence boost ahead of the next phase of the season.
