Colwyn Bay manager Michael Wilde has participated in an intense military-style training exercise as part of the Football Association of Wales' (FAW) prestigious Uefa Pro Licence course. The Cymru Premier side's boss joined elite coaches including Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta and Willy Caballero in a two-day simulation involving explosions, ambushes and casualty response drills.
What is the FAW Pro Licence course?
The FAW's Pro Licence course is considered the 'Harvard of football coaching', attracting top managers and former players from around the world. Colwyn Bay's Wilde is currently overseeing a team sitting 5th in the Cymru Premier with 45 points from 32 games, including a recent 0-0 draw against Penybont. The course includes realistic scenarios like rescuing hostages and treating battlefield injuries.
Why is this training unique?
Unlike traditional coaching courses, this program incorporates military tactics and high-pressure simulations. Former US international Michael Bradley described it as 'a big honour' to participate. The exercise pushes candidates to their limits, with sleep deprivation and complex decision-making under pressure. Colwyn Bay's Wilde is among a diverse group of coaches, including Ella Masar, who is 36 weeks pregnant and participating in the course.
