In the opening match of the new league season, Llandudno showcased their dominance by securing a thrilling 3-2 victory over Flint Town United with late goals. The Silkmen, led by manager Lee Fowler, embarked on an away-day journey to Cymru North champions Llandudno, who were making their return to the top flight with great fanfare and a crowd of over 600 spectators for the evening match-up.
The game started poorly for Flint Town United as they fell behind after just five minutes. Adam Stephens capitalized on a forward pass, sending his effort beyond goalkeeper Jack Flint. However, Flint gradually found their rhythm and were soon levelled by Tunde Owolabi's pacey run and shot from an angle into the corner of the net.
The momentum shifted in favor of Llandudno when VAR intervened for the first time during a match. After Tunde Owolabi’s effort, Anthony Stephens caught him with a lunging challenge, prompting referee Alex Livesey to review the incident on the pitchside monitor and award a penalty which Joe Malkin converted.
Despite this setback, Flint Town United showed resilience and fought back to take the lead in the second half. Marc Williams equalized for Llandudno after 72 minutes, setting up an exciting conclusion. In stoppage time, Mark Cadwallader sealed the win with a swift counter-attack goal, ensuring Llandudno's victory.
In other action on opening day, Colwyn Bay also secured their first league win of the season against newly-promoted Trefelin. The Silkmen opened the scoring in the second minute from Matty Hill’s long throw-in, with Jordan Davies netting at the far post. Adam Davies added a crucial second goal to secure the 2-0 victory.
Manager Michael Wilde expressed satisfaction with his team's performance and their successful start to the season: 'We're really pleased. We've done something the football club haven’t done since me and Danny (Harrison) have been here which is win our opening league game. That’s a massive tick, and from a performance point of view - especially the first 20-25 minutes - we asked the lads to do it a certain way and try and get a foothold in the game and we did that very early.'
